Services At Readings For The Blind
Services:
We offer customized recordings in response to specific requests from individuals and schools. Eligibility: Anyone who is any one of the following:· Blind
· Visually impaired
· Learning disabled
· Physically unable to hold a book or turn a page
We serve people anywhere in the United States.
Cost:
Unlike other organizations, RFTB does not charge membership fees.
As a way to continue services for all who need them, beginning November 1, 2008, RFTB will initiate a $10 recording fee for each book/document requested for recording.
A $5 Borrowing Fee for each book/title already found in our library will also be initiated.
Purchasing Fees will remain at $5 per tape or cd, with a maximum charge of $50 for textbooks and related matter and $30 for all other materials.
Recording Fees and/or Borrowing Fees are due when requests are sent to RFTB
Types of books we’ll read:We will read virtually any type of print material:
· text books· leisure reading
· instructional materials
· religious publications
· magazines
· newsletters
· and more
Textbooks are given priority.

If you are an individual, click here for the application. If you are a teacher, school employee or other professional, click here for the application. After printing out the form and filling it out, mail or fax it back to us. The application can also be completed by phone, if needed.
Request a recording from our library :
Master copies of all the books we record are kept in our library. Currently, we have over 2000 book titles in our library. These recordings can be borrowed or purchased. To request a title from our library, complete our library request form and fax or mail it to us. How do you know if we have a title you’re looking for? All our titles are listed in the LOUIS database through the American Printing House for the Blind’s website: www.aph.org. You can then E-mail us with your request right from their site. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can call us to inquire about a book's availability.

If you're looking for a book that has not already been recorded, you may request that we record it for you by:
· Calling Readings for the Blind at (248) 557-7776 to check our volunteer availability.· Sending a completed application form if you have not done so already.
· Sending us one copy of the book, along with the Request for Recording form
